How Much Does a Farmhouse Dining Table Cost? 2026 Price Guide
Share
The Short Answer
A farmhouse dining table can cost anywhere from about $300 to well over $5,000. That is a huge range. However, the price usually tracks one thing: what the table is actually made of. Once you know that, the numbers start to make sense.
So let's break it down, honestly, the way we would explain it if you called the shop.
Broad ranges for a 6 to 8 foot table. Shipping is often extra at other sellers.
What Actually Drives the Price
First, there is the material. Veneer and MDF are cheap because they are thin layers over pressed wood. In contrast, a solid top is real wood all the way through, so you can sand and refinish it for decades.
Second, there is labor. A reclaimed table takes far more hands-on time. Every board gets de-nailed, kiln dried, planed and matched before it becomes a top. That work is where the character comes from.
Third, size matters more than people expect. Each extra foot of length adds wood, weight and shipping cost. Finally, the base style plays a part. A trestle base takes more joinery than four simple legs.
Ask any seller one question: "Is the top solid wood or veneer?" If they hesitate, you have your answer.
What Each Budget Really Buys
| Budget | What you usually get | Expected life |
|---|---|---|
| Under $700 | Veneer or particleboard, flat packed, fixed size | A few years |
| $700 to $1,500 | Solid new pine, factory made, light finish | 5 to 15 years |
| $1,800 to $4,000 | Handmade solid hardwood, some custom options | Decades |
| $2,500 and up | Handmade reclaimed barnwood, custom size and finish | Generations |
Our Farmhouse Table Prices
For reference, our reclaimed barnwood trestle tables start at $2,900 for a 6 foot by 36 inch table. Longer tables cost more, and you can choose classic barnwood or Colorado beetle kill pine at the same price. Importantly, shipping is already included.
Every piece we build ships free to the lower 48 states. Custom sizes are welcome. Call (970) 518-2883 to talk to the builder.
Picking the Right Size
Plan on about 24 inches of table edge per person. Then leave roughly 36 inches between the table and the wall so chairs can slide out. For example, a 7 foot table seats six to eight and fits a room about 13 by 9 feet. Our farmhouse table collection has a full sizing chart.
Is Reclaimed Wood Worth the Extra Cost?
For most families, yes. A dining table gets more daily use than almost any other piece in the house. Homework, holidays and game nights all happen there. Because of that, a solid table that can be refinished is one of the best long term buys you can make.
There is also a sustainability side. Reusing existing lumber keeps good wood out of the waste stream, which the U.S. EPA lists as a key benefit of salvaging building materials.
Farmhouse Table Questions
How much should I spend on a farmhouse dining table?
If you want a table that lasts decades, plan on $1,800 to $4,500 for a handmade solid wood table. Cheaper tables can work short term, but they rarely survive heavy family use.
Is a trestle table better than a four leg table?
A trestle base frees up the corners, so you can fit extra chairs at the ends. It is also very stable on long tables.
Can I get a custom size?
Yes. We build tables to custom lengths and widths. Call (970) 518-2883 or request a custom quote.
