Most beds are an assembly project. Yours arrives in five boxes, you spend an evening with an Allen wrench, and eighteen months later it develops a creak you cannot locate no matter how many bolts you retighten.

The Wyoming Platform Bed is the opposite of that. It is heavy. It is solid wood all the way through. And it does not make noise, because there is nothing in it that can work itself loose.

We build every one by hand in Weldona, Colorado, from wood that has already proven it can survive this climate. Some of it came off barns that stood on the eastern plains for a century. Some of it came out of Colorado's own beetle-killed pine forests. None of it was manufactured to look old.

Two Colorado woods. Two very different beds.

This is the choice that changes the whole feel of the piece, so it is worth understanding before you pick.

Option one

Beetle Kill Pine

Mountain pine beetles moved through millions of acres of Colorado lodgepole pine, and the fungus they carry leaves behind something no stain can replicate: silver, gray, and blue streaking that runs deep into the grain. It is not a finish. It is the wood's own history.

Lighter overall, cooler in tone, and genuinely unique board to board. If you have a bright bedroom or lighter flooring, this is usually the one people fall for.

Option two

Reclaimed Barnwood

Salvaged from barns, granaries, and outbuildings that stood through decades of Colorado weather. Warmer and deeper in tone, with the original saw marks, nail holes, and weathered face left intact.

This is the classic rustic look. Darker rooms, wood floors, exposed beams — barnwood anchors all of it.

Not sure which? Send us a photo of your bedroom. We will tell you honestly which one will look better in your light, even when it is the cheaper option.

Why a platform bed frame is the better buy

A traditional frame needs a box spring to hold the mattress up. A platform bed does that job itself, with a slat deck built into the frame.

Three things follow from that:

  • You skip the box spring entirely. That is a purchase you never make, and a bulky item you never have to move again.
  • The bed sits lower and reads calmer. Rooms with lower ceilings feel taller. The bed becomes furniture instead of a platform on stilts.
  • Nothing squeaks. Squeaking comes from metal parts rubbing and from cam bolts loosening. Solid wood joinery does not do that.

Modern mattresses — memory foam, latex, hybrid — are designed for exactly this kind of flat, supported deck. Most manufacturers actively prefer a slatted platform to a box spring.

Reclaimed barnwood furniture that gets handed down, not thrown out

Here is the part nobody says out loud about cheap bedroom furniture: it is designed with an expiration date. Particleboard swells if it gets wet. Veneer chips and cannot be repaired. Cam locks wallow out after one or two moves. The whole thing is engineered to be replaced.

Solid wood works the other way around. It gets sanded. It gets refinished. It gets repaired. A dent from a dropped book becomes part of its record instead of a reason to buy a new one.

The barnwood in this bed already did one full century of work holding up a roof in Colorado. The beetle kill pine stood in a mountain forest for decades before it was salvaged. Neither one is fragile. Neither one is finished doing its job.

Buy this bed once. Then argue about who gets it in thirty years.

Lifetime workmanship warranty

If a joint we built fails, we make it right. Year one or year twenty-five, for as long as you own the bed. That is not a marketing line — it is a promise we can keep because we still have the shop, and we know exactly who built your bed.

Covers our craftsmanship. Does not cover normal wear, accidents, or misuse. Reclaimed wood is meant to age, and patina is not a defect.

Need your Wyoming Platform Bed in a custom size?

Queen and King are our standard builds, but we are a custom shop first. If your room has a low window, an angled ceiling, a tight doorway, or a mattress that is not a standard size, tell us. We build to your measurements.

Same for the design itself. Taller headboard. Lower profile. Storage underneath. Matching nightstands cut from the same boards so the color actually agrees. All of it is on the table.

Send dimensions and a photo of the room, and we will come back with a written quote and a build timeline before anything gets cut. Click here for custom furniture.

Caring for solid wood furniture in Colorado's dry air

Wood takes on and releases moisture with the air around it. Colorado's semi-arid climate plus forced-air heat is demanding on any solid wood piece — which is exactly why we build with lumber that has already spent decades acclimating here.

Three habits and you are set:

  • Dust with a soft dry cloth. Skip silicone sprays and harsh chemical cleaners.
  • Keep the bed out of direct sun through an uncovered south-facing window.
  • Run a humidifier in winter. Good for the wood, good for your floors, good for you.

Questions about the Wyoming Platform Bed

Do I need a box spring with this bed?

No. The Wyoming Platform Bed includes a full slat deck with center support, so your mattress rests directly on the frame. That saves you the cost of a box spring entirely.

What sizes does it come in?

Queen and King are our standard builds. Custom sizing is available if your room or mattress calls for something different — just ask before you order.

What is Beetle Kill Pine?

It is Colorado lodgepole pine from trees killed by the mountain pine beetle. A fungus carried by the beetle leaves blue, gray, and silver streaking permanently in the grain. Salvaging it puts standing dead timber to use instead of letting it go to waste.

Is the blue-gray color in Beetle Kill a stain or a finish?

Neither. It is inside the wood itself, created by the fungus while the tree was standing. It will not sand off or fade away, because it is not sitting on the surface.

Will my bed look exactly like the photos?

The design will. The wood will not — and that is the point. Every board has its own grain, color, and marks. No two of these beds have ever been identical.

Where is this bed made?

In our own shop in Weldona, Colorado. It is not outsourced and not imported. The people who cut, sand, and finish it work in the same building.

Does it squeak?

Squeaking comes from metal-on-metal contact and from cam bolts loosening over time. This bed is solid wood with proper joinery, which is why it stays quiet.

Is it solid wood or veneer over particleboard?

Solid wood, all the way through. You can sand it, refinish it, and repair it decades from now — none of which is possible with veneered particleboard.

Can you build matching nightstands or a dresser?

Yes, and ordering them together is the right move. Cutting matching pieces from the same batch of wood gets you a much closer color match than ordering a year later.

What does the lifetime warranty actually cover?

Our workmanship — joinery, construction, and build defects — for as long as you own the bed. It does not cover normal wear, accidents, or misuse. Patina and small marks are part of how reclaimed wood ages.

Does it work with a memory foam or hybrid mattress?

Yes. Foam, latex, and hybrid mattresses are designed for a flat supported deck like this one. Most mattress manufacturers prefer a slatted platform over a box spring.

Is reclaimed wood furniture eco-friendly?

It is one of the more genuinely sustainable options available. No new tree is harvested, salvaged lumber stays out of burn piles and landfills, and beetle kill puts already-dead standing timber to use. Longevity is the biggest factor — a bed that lasts sixty years replaces several that would not.

How long does it take to build?

Because each bed is made by hand, lead time depends on the wood selection and our current queue. Contact us for a current estimate before you order, and we will give you a real date rather than a guess.

Do you ship outside Colorado?

Yes, we ship nationwide, and we serve Colorado customers directly. Reach out with your delivery address and we will confirm options and cost for your size.

How does it get into my bedroom?

The bed comes as major components rather than a single welded piece, so it moves through standard doorways and up stairs. If you have a tight turn or a narrow stairwell, tell us before you order and we will plan around it.

Colorado wood. Colorado hands. One bed, once.

Choose Queen or King and your wood above. Questions about sizing, custom builds, or delivery — ask us before you buy. We would rather get it right than get it sold.
